The Greater Warsaw Ministerial Association collected two semi truck trailer loads of food, water, diapers, toilet paper, chain saws, gas cans, hygiene products and other items to be delivered to the storm-ravaged area in Louisiana.
Items were collected in the Marsh parking lot Sunday and Monday to fill two trailers provided at no cost by Metzger Trucking Co. of Silver Lake. Metzger is delivering the materials to the storm-ravaged area. Rhom & Haas Powder Coatings of Warsaw provided the boxes and tape used to pack the items for shipment.
Pastor John Lowe, GWMA president, said, "The donations are being sent to Louisiana or Texas with local churches we have contacted. They will, in turn, distribute the donations to relief agencies such as the Baptist Disaster Services, The Salvation Army and other non-profit Christian relief services."
"The outpouring of support is tremendous," said Debbie Lowe of New Life Christian Church. "This is the church at its best in doing what Jesus commanded us to do - to feed, clothe and care for those who are poor and in need."
The group took time every two hours to pray for the victims and relief workers in the Gulf Coast area. There were many tears in people's eyes as the cars, trucks and trailers kept stopping and leaving their donations. They were then processed by volunteers from area churches and marked to help the relief centers to process the items when they are received.
Cash donations may be sent for disaster relief by sending a check to GWMA, P.O. Box 1797, Warsaw, IN 46581-1797. Write "Disaster Relief" in the memo line.
In-kind donations may be taken to The Salvation Army, 501 E. Arthur St., Warsaw, for collection to be sent to the relief area in the near future.
The GWMA plans to fill another trailer the first week-end of October. For more information call 574-269-5851 or e-mail questions to info@gwma.net
