PIERCETON - Scores of preschoolers and kindegarteners trouped around the Studebaker farm this week when the Pierceton Hayseeds 4-H Club sponsored a minifarm tour for the children.
"We're in our 16th year," said Sue Studebaker, who hosts the event along with her husband, Roger. "A neighbor had a minifarm and decided to quit so my kids wanted to do it. They're long gone from home, now my grandchildren help out."
All preschool and kindergarden classes in the Whitko area and one from North Webster learned about goats, rabbits, horses, donkeys, puppies (that need homes), kittens, chickens, ducks and calves.
The club members "show and tell" at each eductional station and accompanied more than 250 children on a nature walk.
For the 4-H'ers, the event is an excused absence from school.
"It's their favorite event of the year," said Hayseeds leader Vicki Camden. "It's a learning experience for the young children and for the members."
About half the club, 25 members, participated in the event.
