Three city departments presented their proposed 1998 budgets to the Milford Town Council Monday, but the council took no action on the budgets. Approximate total budgets presented were: motor vehicle and highway, $172,000; police, $141,000; clerk-treasurer, $187,000.
The proposed budgets are slightly less than 5 percent higher than the 1997 budgets.
The council will consider budgets for the fire and park departments at 6 p.m. tonight.
Also Monday the council approved a resolution to establish an economic revitalization area for a 10-year tax abatement for Royal Crown Ltd. The company is planning to build an 80,000- to 100,000-square-foot facility in Milford that will result in 66 new jobs besides the 54 jobs that will be retained from the former CTB Inc. operation.
The plant is a division of Royal Group Technologies Limited from Woodbridge, Ontario, Canada.
