SYRACUSE – Milford Elementary Kehoe Kids raised over $13,000 for Riley Children’s Hospital.
At the Wawasee School Corporation board meeting Tuesday night, students from Milford Elementary announced to the board that the total amount of funds raised is $13,450. Fourth-grade students will travel to Indianapolis Friday to present the donations. Glenda Ritz, Indiana superintendent of public instruction, will go to Riley with the students.
The goal of the Kehoe Kids was to supply children at Riley with a surplus of books to read. So far, over 3,000 books have been purchased. The funds will be used to continually buy books in the future.
Milford School received a $1,350 grant from NFL Play 60 to fund its yearly adventure races on the last day of school. Syracuse kindergarten teacher Jared Knipper was a recipient of the 2016 PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovator Award. Knipper told the board that his class has access to power tools, computers and 3D printers. His students use problem solving skills to design their own products. Knipper will travel to Denver this summer to receive training from PBS on digital learning techniques.
In other news, Wawasee High School Radio students participated in the Indiana Association of Broadcasters State Competition. ISTEP testing began this week in all the schools, and is working better on devices than it has in recent years, according to Joy Goshert.
