MILFORD - The Milford Police Department bought a 1998 car to replace a squad car destroyed by fire Sunday evening.
The Milford Town Council approved the purchase at a special meeting Thursday.
The car will be picked up next week and should be available for use within the next two weeks.
The funds for the new car came from the insurance settlement on the old car that caught fire. The town used its cumulative capital development fund, which is budgeted to handle emergency equipment costs to pay for the rest of the vehicle.
An officer on patrol in the car Sunday night said he smelled smoke coming from the console that held the electronics controls for the car. He exited the car and it caught on fire.
