Milford Puts Deadline On Wastewater Construction

Posted

MILFORD - Beginning April 5, Thieneman Construction, South Bend, has 240 days to complete the construction of Milford's new wastewater treatment plant.

Monday, the Milford Town Council approved and signed the contracts for the construction.

Brian Houghton, of Jones & Henry Engineers, said the construction will last into November, provided Thieneman needs all of the 240 days. Houghton also presented the council with the first change order with a savings of $100,060, also unanimously approved by the council. Another change order is in the works.

Thieneman Construction was the lowest bidder on the project at $2,012,000. The engineer's estimate for the project was $1.75 million.

In another matter, the council approved to trade in the Milford Police Department's 2003 Impala for a 2004 Impala with McCormick Motors. The 2003 vehicle has been having problems. The difference in cost between the two vehicles is $1,810. McCormick Motors also will pay 50 percent of the costs of transferring the police equipment from the 2003 vehicle to the 2004 vehicle, leaving the town with a total cost of $2,317.50.

"I'm not thrilled with it, but I think it's the best deal we can get," said Robert Cockburn, councilman.

Members of the town council are chairman Doug Ruch, Cockburn and Gary Hurd. Their regular meetings are on the second Monday of every month in the town hall at 7 p.m.
