MILFORD – Town council voted Monday to proceed with a $12,700 master plan study which will explore the possibility of jointly housing police and fire services. The Troyer Group engineering firm will produce a master plan for Milford after gathering input from residents and town officials. Part of the study will be judging the feasibility of housing police and fire departments together, which council members have said they hope is safer and less expensive. The study could help spur the town into action, said Tim Wall, an architect with the firm, and provide guidance as it adapts to recent growth and prepares for more. The Milford Redevelopment Commission agreed to cover half the cost of the study after also hearing a presentation from Wall. Council also voted Monday to follow up on a list of 11 properties in town that need addressed, approving $1,650 in pay for Ken Brower, who acts as the town building inspector. He will have the discretion after inspecting each property to take no action, give the property owner time to address the problems, or file a report, which will turn the issue over to a town building commissioner and possible action by the town council. The initial pay approved for the list of 11 properties is just a start, remarked councilman Dan Cochran, who said he wants to focus on all properties in town that are vacant or a health or safety hazard.
