Milford Offers Rides For Kids, Garage Sales For AdultsMILFORD – There were a lot of rides to choose from at Milford Fest Saturday, but not many Ava Hettinger could go on. The 9-month-old was visiting the 175th fest with mom, Angela, and her friend, Jonna Stinehour, all from Milford. They decided the merry-go-round was a safe pace for Ava, who sat upright with help from Stinehour. They said it was their fourth or fifth time at the fest, enjoying the rides, food, entertainment and town-wide garage sales. The fest also featured a classic car show stretching down Main Street and around the corner, and contests for pets, toddlers and seniors. Grant Krull was crowned Cutie King that morning in the pageant for 4- and 5-year-olds, and Sylvia Dixon named queen. In the younger category, for 2- and 3-year-olds, Jaiden Grisby was named prince and Candace Shepherd princess. Six senior adults also competed for a crown, which went to Bob Brown and Becky Doll. The winner was determined by a penny a vote, with the money to benefit next year’s fest. While Ava was in line for her ride, Shai Howland and Karina Ramsey were a few stories up on the potato sack slide. It was the first visit for Howland, from Walkerton, while Shai, 4, was there for his second year with his Milford family. It was also the first visit for Pat and Sarah Chesebrough, who were watching 3-year-old daughter Bernadette get a butterfly painted on her face. The Fort Wayne family came with a clutch of six kids and cousins, who Sarah Chesebrough said particularly enjoyed the games and dunking booth. “My aunt lives on the lake and told us about the festival,” she said. “This is really cool, it’s a nice surprise.”
