OSWEGO - Milford Town Marshal David Hobbs was seriously injured when his motorcycle hit a pickup Saturday afternoon.
Hobbs, 50, of Section Street, Milford, was injured at the intersection of Armstrong Road and CR 350E, near Oswego. Hobbs was off duty at the time of the accident.
According to police reports, Benjamin R. Gates, 18, Old Road 30, Warsaw, was waiting to turn north onto CR 350E. He told police he let a group of motorcycles pass him going west and then started to turn.
Hobbs was driving west on his motorcycle when it struck the side of Gates' pickup. Hobbs was thrown about 30 feet in the air after the impact, according to police.
Hobbs was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital and later transferred to Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne. He is currently in serious condition with hip and internal injuries.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department is investigating the accident. The Plain Township Fire and EMS and North Webster Fire and EMS assisted at the scene.
Hobbs has served as marshal in Milford since June 1978. Deputy Marshal Louis Mediano is currently acting as marshal for Hobbs.
Hobbs' motorcycle was totalled in the collision. Damage to Gates' pickup was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.
Information regarding the involvement of a third vehicle in the collision was not complete. The driver was Charles C. Sherwood, 63, EMS W26 Lane, North Webster. Damage to his vehicle was estimated at $1,000-$2,500.
