SYRACUSE – A Milford man was arrested after leading police on a chase early this morning in Syracuse.

Michael David Mench, 36, of 406 Turkey Creek Drive, Milford, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 4:39 a.m. today for battery with a deadly weapon, being a habitual traffic violator, resisting law enforcement – fleeing and reckless driving. At about 2:11 a.m. today, Syracuse Police attempted to stop a vehicle, driven by Mench, for a traffic violation. While doing so, the vehicle sped up and a pursuit ensued. During the chase, Mench drove through several Syracuse properties, causing damage and nearly striking a pedestrian and a police vehicle.

The pursuit ended at West Boston and Main streets in Syracuse where the suspect fled on foot until he was apprehended and taken into custody.

During his arrest police found what they believed to be methamphetamine in Mench’s possession.

The Syracuse Police Department was assisted in the pursuit by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department; Milford, North Webster and Winona Lake police departments.
