MILFORD - During the Milford town council's June meeting, several residents' concerns were voiced along with the standard monthly department reports.
A group of residents from the North Park area of town were on hand to express concern about incidents of four-wheel-drive vehicles running on private property. The concerns were mainly about safety, especially with small children in the area.Noise was another issue, as well as the upkeep of several unoccupied properties.
In regard to property upkeep, utilities superintendent Dallas Winchester said that he intends to send registered letters to the owners of several sites, saying that unless their grass is mowed, utilities department personnel will do the job at the owner's expense.
Milford resident Maria Lozano expressed concern before council regarding several issues in her neighborhood. These range from neighbors keeping horses, to standing water and a hazardous electric fence. She was advised to contact the area plan commission, because these issues are of a civil nature.
Troy Haines, representing the Milford Fire Department, told council the department now has an emergency action plan in place. This is the procedure the fire department will follow during tornadoes and other natural disasters and emergencies. The department also is in the process of transferring equipment to a newly purchased fire truck, but it will take a while before it can be brought into service.
Randy Veach, Milford Parks Department, updated council regarding the ongoing septic problem at the park. According to Veach, the state has recommended construction of a four-to-five foot mound, 80 feet in length, to deal with the issue. Other options will be studied before any decision is made.
Rick Wagner presented council with information regarding insurance coverage for town employees. There will be a 4.9 percent rate increase, but current insurance coverage will remain the same.
Council adopted an as alley vacation ordinance. In effect, this allows for the elimination of the alley between two properties owned by the Doty family on Turkey Creek Drive.
Council approved the purchase of a one-ton truck for the utilities department from McCormick Motors, for $32,046. Utilities will take possession of the vehicle next week.
In other business:
n The Milford Fest was a success, and council would like to thank the Lion's Club and all volunteers and vendors for their time, energy, and effort.
n Council authorized the town clerk to draft a new policy regarding rental of the community building. Notice will be given when it takes effect.
n The accounts payable voucher register for the past month was approved as presented.
