Milford Boy, 10, Struck By Car

MILFORD -ÊA 10-year-old Milford boy is in serious condition at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, today after a Monday afternoon accident.

Karlan J. Miller, 10, of 2742 W. CR 1350N, Milford, was riding a bicycle on CR 1350N around 3:04 p.m. Wednesday when he turned in front of an eastbound Ford F150 pickup driven by Michael J. Hutchins, Culver.

According to the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Miller was one of two bicyclists eastbound on CR 1350N. The first bicyclist made a left turn into the driveway at 2742 W. CR 1350N, Milford. Miller, the second bicyclist, also tried to make the left-hand turn but he was hit by Hutchins' pickup.

Hutchins tried to swerve away from Miller, but was unable to avoid the crash. Witnesses at the scene of the accident said the bicyclists turned in front of the pickup and Hutchins was traveling at a safe speed.

Miller was airlifted to Parkview Hospital from the scene of the crash by the Lutheran Air Ambulance.

The accident remains under investigation at this time.

The Milford Police, Milford Fire Department and Milford EMS, Syracuse EMS and Lutheran Air Ambulance assisted the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department at the scene of the crash.
