Milford Approves Money For Repairs After Possible Lightning Strike

Posted
MILFORD – After a lightning strike at the town’s wastewater treatment plant on CR 1250N May 25, the Milford Town Council on Tuesday approved the cost of fixing the damage.

The Council approved a quote not to exceed $3,300 from Franke Environmental Systems to fix the affluent meter with installation and calibration of the meter.

Councilman Doug Ruch said there may be a chance the town could be reimbursed for the cost through insurance. Clerk-Treasurer Tricia Gall said the town is going to submit paperwork to insurance once an electrician looks at the plant and verifies the lightning strike did happen.

Wastewater Superintendent Mark Brubaker is going to have the surge protector at the plant checked out to see if it needs to be replaced as well. Brubaker estimated, if the surge protector did need to be replaced, it would cost another $3,000.

The Council also approved the purchase of a surge protector not to exceed $3,000, provided one can be found. Gall said if more than $3,000 is needed for the surge protector, the matter would have to come back in front of the Council to get it approved.

In other business, Ruch suggested Gall check with the town’s insurance company that, if the town does any electronic payments, it would be covered under cyber insurance.

Gall said the town does not make electronic payments, so they are not vulnerable in that fashion.
