MILFORD - An ordinance granting a cable franchise to Triax Midwest Associates, L.P., was approved by the Milford town council Monday.
"It's not the best situation, but it's the best the community of Milford can do," council member Douglas L. Ruch said.
The franchise was granted for inside the town limits. The cable system operator will not be required to extend service beyond the present boundaries unless there is a minimum of 45 homes per cable mile.
In return, Triax will pay the town 1 percent of its annual gross revenues. Payments will be paid quarterly.
The town reserves the right to revoke, terminate or cancel the franchise.
In other business, the council approved Bob Beer to sign the construction contracts with Milestone Construction for the New Beginnings Daycare once the funds have been released.
Milestone Construction was the low bidder, with an initial base bid of approximately $478,000. The release of funds should happen by Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning. The final permit from the Indiana Department of Health was received Monday afternoon.
Halloween hours were set for Milford on Oct. 30 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
In final business, David Clay, economic development coordinator for Kosciusko County, introduced himself and thanked Milford for the local support of Kosciusko Development Inc.
Ruch said, "We have some empty buildings in town so we'd appreciate any push to get those filled."
The next meeting will be Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. Town offices will be open election day, but will be closed Nov. 11 for Veterans Day.
