MILFORD -ÊAfter two public hearings, the Milford Town Council adopted the 2000 budget Monday.
The budget, based on a net assessed valuation of $14,304,130, is estimated to be $725,947 with maximum estimated funds to be raised of $344,487. The current (1999) tax levy is $330,618.
The biggest part of the budget estimate is the general fund with an estimate of $403,706, followed by the motor vehicle highway fund estimated at $191,341.
Other funds and their 2000 budget estimate include the local road and street at $30,000; cumulative capital improvements tax rate at $35,000; cumulative capital developments at $30,000; cumulative sewer at $25,000; cumulative capital improvement cigarette tax at $10,000; and police education fund at $900.
In other business, trick-or-treating was set for Oct. 30 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Milford Fire Department will hold a chicken barbeque Oct. 3. The barbeque will kick off fire prevention week.
The council approved $786.36 to install new springs in the fire department rescue truck. The fire department paid the first $500 for the new springs.
The council received two estimates to repair the police car which has suffered minor damages since it was bought in 1998. The estimates were $996 and $676. A third estimate is being sought.
Liquid Force completed work on selected town storm sewers. The original cost was estimated to be $17,700 but was reduced to $14,500 through negotiations.
The water consumer confidence report for the town's water supply is completed. The report will be distributed next week.
Leaf collection will begin in two weeks. Leaves must be raked to the curb and not into the street. The leaves will not be picked up in alleys. All Milford residents are requested not to burn leaves.
The town hall will be closed for Columbus Day Oct. 11. The next town council meeting will be Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.
