Mildred "Peg" Y. Smith, 103, of Warsaw, died May 21, 2007, in Grace Village, Winona Lake.

She was born Feb. 22, 1904, in Wabash County, to Virgil and Clara Warner Yeager. On Jan. 31, 1926, she married Condict Smith, who died Aug. 9, 1966.

A lifetime resident of Warsaw, she was an elementary teacher for 29 years at East Wayne (Jefferson) Elementary. She was a member of First Brethren Church. She was a member of the Warsaw Chapter 88 Order of Eastern Star, where she held all offices in the district and was Grand Matron for the state of Indiana in 1944. She was a member of the Warsaw Daughter of the American Revolution, and past regent DAR in Tucson, Ariz. She was a past state president of Church Women United of Arizona. While serving as president in July 1963, she was invited to Washington, D.C., and appointed to serve on the committee for civil rights by John F. Kennedy. She also helped organize and served as the first president of the Girl Scout Council for Warsaw.

Surviving are three nephews, including Charles Yeager and Jon Swoverland, both of Warsaw; and a niece.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with the Revs. Paul Tinkel and Bill Shipman officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Calling will be from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday with an Order of the Eastern Star service at 8 p.m.
