AKRON — Mildred O. Harrold, 97, Akron, died at 11 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, at her residence. 

She was born Dec. 19, 1919, in Kosciusko County, to Oren and Grace Cook Craig. She was united in marriage on Nov. 26, 1942, in the residence she had lived in most of her life, to Dorris L. Harrold, who preceded on June 9, 2009.

She taught school 33 years in the Franklin, Beaver Dam and Warsaw school systems.

Mildred graduated from Beaver Dam High School and Manchester College. She received a teaching degree with a life license in two years. She was a member of Beaver Dam United Methodist Church for over 65 years. She was a life member of the American Angus Auxiliary and sewed for the Ways and Means for the Indiana Angus Auxiliary for 20 years. She and Dorris were Kosciusko County 4-H leaders for 18 years. 

Survivors include a son, Richard (wife Vicki) Harrold, Akron; a daughter, Sharon (husband Dr. Richard) Sommers, Silver Lake; grandchildren: Jill and Dan Harker, both of Hope; Janelle (husband Brian) Deatsman, Leesburg; and Jason and Tonia Harrold, both of North Manchester; and great-grandchildren: Luke and Chase Harker; Collin and Landon Deatsman; and Noah, Madelyn and Sophia Harrold.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oren and Grace Craig; a sister, Susie Riley; and two brothers, George Craig and William P. Craig.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, with visitation one hour prior, at Hartzler Funeral Home 305 W. Rochester St., Akron. Pastor Evelyn Haney will officiate, and burial will be in Akron Cemetery.

Visitation also will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 13, at the funeral home.
