Mildred Alice McNeal, 84, of Warsaw, was called home to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 16, 2026. As the daughter of a preacher, Mildred was raised in a family that instilled a deep love for Christ in her heart, a devotion she faithfully reflected by serving her Lord in all she did.
Born on Feb. 23, 1942, in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada, she was one of six children born to Mary Leta Smith Johnson and Rev. Gordon C. Johnson. Married on June 26, 1971, to Joshua Way McNeal Sr., they were blessed with raising two daughters and one son, sharing the joy of becoming grandparents and great-grandparents during their 49 years of marriage before he passed away on June 15, 2021.
Mildred graduated from Bond County Unit 2 High School, also known as Greenville High School in Illinois. She earned her associate degree from Greenville College and worked throughout her life as a medical transcriptionist transcribing for Dr. Roberta Rose and later at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw. Church was always central in her life and Mildred enjoyed worshiping alongside her church family at Community Life Center in Warsaw. Mildred’s life was a testament to her faith, remaining steadfast and navigating every challenge with an unshakeable trust in the Lord. She was deeply respected and loved by all who knew her. Mildred simply lived a life defined by grace and she would most want to be remembered for her faith in her Savior Jesus Christ.
Mildred will be lovingly remembered as a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and a friend to many. She leaves behind two daughters, Sara Strahan Lenfestey, Warsaw; Leta McNeal, Fort Wayne; and her son, Joshua McNeal Jr., Warsaw. Also surviving is her grandson, Robert Winston Martin (Whitney) Strahan, Fort Wayne; great-grandchildren, Jaxon Jeffrey Strahan and Alaya AnnMarie Strahan; as well as two brothers, Elder John (Zelda) Johnson, Converse, Texas; Rev. Walter Johnson, Warsaw; brother-in-law, Rev. Dr. John (Earlene) McNeal, Decatur, Ga.; and sisters-in-law, Myrtle Johnson, Saint Hedwig, Texas; Tina McNeal, Clarksville, Tenn.; and Sara Pearl McNeal, Atlanta, Ga. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joshua; brothers, George and Gordon Johnson; her sister, Leta Frances.
Friends and family may visit from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 22 Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw. Mildred’s life will be celebrated with a home-going service at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 23 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, and officiated by Pastor William Whitaker, Pastor Phil Chandler and Deacon J.W. Anderson. There will be an hour of visitation prior to the service from 9 to 10 a.m. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw. After the burial there will be a repast from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Church of God, 1059 Rozella Road, Warsaw.
