Kosciusko Economic Development Corporation recently welcomed a tier one orthopedic medical device manufacturing company, Micro Machine, to Warsaw. With the right talent pool and many of the company’s customers located in Kosciusko County, Micro Machine found a property at 4310 Corridor Drive to be the ideal location for expansion. Micro Machine is based in Kalamazoo, Mich., and provides precision machined parts for the medical device industry. They have a customer base nationally and some international. Micro Machine Company was founded in 1964 by entrepreneur and inventor William Walker, known for his “Walker Downriggers” used for Great Lakes fishing and an electrical surgical knife. The medical device caught the eye of an investment firm, and in 1988 the company was purchased and former owner Larry Dehart was brought on as operations manager. Today the company’s leadership includes Clive Scott, CEO; Tony DeHart, group manager of business development; and JJ Hawley, group manager of engineering. The company plans to install $2.59 million worth of new manufacturing equipment over the next five years, and to employ a total employee base of 60. “Kosciusko County has the labor market that we need and further expansion in this area is intended for the future,” said DeHart. Micro Machine also found a vendor base in the county and has already brought new business to the orthopedic vendor cluster.
