Michael J. Cassidy, 69, New Castle, passed away Nov. 8, 2015, at Kindred Rehabilitation Center, Greenwood.
He was born Jan. 11, 1946, in New Castle, to Mitchell and Martha Elizabeth Craig Cassidy. He married Janet Huffer, who survives, and they were together 48 years.
An ordained minister, he had pastored at Buck Creek Church of the Brethren for 14 years. He was also a Henry County juvenile probation officer, retiring in 2012. He was a past president of New Castle Breakfast Optimist Club, was a deputy sheriff in the 1970s and had served in the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam War. He was a 1964 graduate of New Castle Chrysler High School and of Indiana University in 1972. He served on the District Board for Church of the Brethren. He enjoyed duck hunting, running, music, reading, writing, bird watching and enjoyed studying history.
Also surviving are a son, Ryan (and spouse Angela) Cassidy, Argos; a daughter, Leah (and spouse Nicholas) Borden, Goshen; four grandchildren: Estella, Anna, Eliott and Will; a sister, Lisa (and spouse David) Ferguson, Yorktown; a brother, Craig Patrick (and spouse Cecily) Cassidy, San Antonio, Texas; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Buck Creek Church of the Brethren, with Chuck Bell officiating. Burial will be at noon Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw. Military rites will be conducted by the VFW and American Legion.
Calling is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the church.
