MENTONE - Bill Patrick wasn't the only basketball coach hired at Monday's board meeting at Tippecanoe Valley.
The board also named 24-year-old Mindy Metzger, who graduated from Tippecanoe Valley in 1992, as the school's new varsity girls basketball coach.
Metzger, played basketball on a full-ride scholarship at St. Joseph's, took several Valley records with her, including most points scored in a game (44).
"We expect Mindy to bring the intensity and enthusiasm she had as a player into coaching," Valley Athletic Director Duane Burkhart said. "We anticipate success, because we feel confident in her coaching abilities."
Metzger coached Valley's junior varsity team to a 14-6 record last year. She replaces Mike Walters, who was 29-30 in three years.
"The main thing is, the girls have to understand baskeball is a game," she said. "Being young, I am able to relate to them. I have that energy, and the girls feed off that. It's a game that's supposed to be fun."
