'Meth' Raid Nets Two Arrests

SYRACUSE - A Syracuse couple were arrested Wednesday on charges that they were manufacturing methamphetamine in their Turtle Bay home.

Jamie L. Graber, 19, and Timothy Shear, 39, of 518 Inwood Circle, Syracuse, were each charged with manufacturing or dealing in a Schedule II substance (methamphetamine), a Class B felony; maintaining a common nuisance, a Class D felony; and possession of two or more chemical reagents or precursors with intent to manufacture, a Class D felony.

According to a press release from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, several tips and information received from area residents led police to the residence, where an operating methamphetamine lab was allegedly located. A search warrant was served there at 12:30 p.m. Thursday and several items associated with meth manufacturing were seized.

The KCSD was assisted in its investigation by the Indiana State Police Clandestine Lab Team and the Syracuse Police Department.

Area police recently have been cracking down on meth labs throughout the county. Methamphetamine is dangerous, officials said, not only because it is highly addictive, but also because the process of manufacturing the illegal drug is dangerous - there is a great risk of fire and/or explosion associated with making meth.

According to information printed in a pamphlet provided by the National Child Safety Council, "Methamphetamine is the most addictive drug known to man and it causes the body literally to burn itself up."

The drug can be injected, inhaled, smoked or eaten and is a stimulant that causes "an intense high."

Production of meth creates a strong ammonia-based odor that can't be masked, according to authorities.

Anyone with information on drug-related activities in their neighborhood is asked to call the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department at 267-5667 or the Kosciusko County Special Operations Team at 372-2494.
