A Warsaw woman was sentenced to six years in the Indiana Department of Corrections Monday for dealing meth.
Lyndsey Leigh Evans, 42, of 111 E. High St., Warsaw, appeared in front of Kosciusko Circuit Court Judge Mike Reed and was sentenced to six years in the IDOC for a Level 4 felony dealing in methamphetamine conviction. The first three years are to be spent in the Kosciusko County Jail per Evans’ participation in the Jail Chemical Addiction Program or work release. The fourth year will be served through work release or Kosciusko County Community Corrections, with the final two years suspended to formal probation. If Evans does not participate in the JCAP program or qualify for work release, she will go to prison.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on July 16 and July 17 officers with the Narcotics Enforcement Team purchased a total of 9.1 grams of methamphetamine from Evans. Restitution in the amount of $350 was ordered to be paid back to NET 43.
In court Monday, Evans’ attorney, Karin McGrath, said it’s baffling to her and to a lot of people what would possess a woman in her 40s, with a family and with a job for 18 years, to pick up a meth pipe.
“I can’t fathom what brought her to that point, but this is where she’s at,” McGrath said, adding that her client has no criminal history.
Evans apologized and Reed said he’s not the person she should be apologizing to – it’s her family.
