Merry Carol Huffer

Posted
Merry Carol Huffer, age 70, of Warsaw, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2021, at 11 p.m. in Warsaw at Miller’s Merry Manor.

Born in Fort Wayne on Christmas Day of 1950, Merry was famous for saying, “(She) was born between the ham and the minced pie …. No one got dessert!” She was the daughter of the late Jack Byers and the late Roberta Hillegas Byers. She attended Warsaw Community High School, graduating in 1969, and went on to earn an associate’s in business from Concordia University.

Professionally, Merry worked in customer service with North American Van Lines and with Zimmer. She truly enjoyed her positions with both companies and built long-lasting relationships with many of her clients and co-workers.

On March 20, 1970, Merry was united in marriage to Max Allen Huffer. The pair shared nearly 50 years together before his passing in September of 2019. Together, they enjoyed traveling to Florida, especially Fort Myers and Clearwater, among other places. They both enjoyed time spent with friends and family and were regulars at Warsaw Tiger Football events across two generations.

Merry was a charter member and the originator of Warsaw Tiger Football Mom’s Club. She was also the chair of her class reunion for several years and had been an active bowler for some time – even if her team spent more time socializing than competing. She enjoyed shopping, dining out, keeping in touch with friends and reading; she especially enjoyed romance novels.

Those who will miss her gregarious personality, her big heart and her good sense of humor include four children: Carrie Davis, Brooks (Tena) Huffer, Stacy Huffer and Marc (Dana) Huffer, all of Warsaw; 12 grandchildren: Ashlie, Jenna, Morgan, Tyler, Cameron, Derek, Dylan, Dustin, Alyssa, Adella-Mae, Emma-Claire and Owen; several great-grandchildren; brother, Richard “Dick” (Annette) Byers, of Indianapolis; and four sisters: Teresa (Russel) Bird, of Defiance, Ohio; Jackalyn Barrett, of Warsaw; Cindy Sarver, of Evansville; and Michele (Lance) Grubbs, of Warsaw. In addition to the love of her life, Max Huffer, and her parents, she was preceded in passing by brother-in-law, Charles Barrett.

A Life Celebration® is planned with Warsaw’s Titus Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2000 E. Sheridan St., where friends may gather on Tuesday, Oct. 19 from 3 to 7 p.m. A rosary service will take place at 7 p.m. On Wednesday, Mass of Christian burial will begin at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 10 a.m. with gathering for one hour prior. Father Terry Fisher will celebrate the Mass. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
