Mentone Offers Sales, Snacks And Sounds During Hometown EventMENTONE – Mentone Chamber of Commerce will hold a Hometown Celebration Saturday.
The event is sponsored by MPS Egg Farms and will be held at 116 W. Main St., Mentone, right across the street from the fire station, said Chamber board member Tim Croy.
The event is being held because Mentone didn’t get to do the Egg Festival, scheduled for June 4-6 this year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Croy said. The event is intended to get people out after experiencing the shutdown.
People can enjoy several things during Saturday’s event.
From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., there will be a farmers market and crafts and flea market. Setup will start at 7 a.m.
“We have about 20 vendors that say they are setting up. If anyone is interested in setting up, they can send a message to the Mentone Chamber of Commerce or Mentone News and Information Facebook page. There's no set-up fee and they need to bring their own table and chairs and a canopy if they want one,” Croy said.
On Saturday, Red Barn will be selling lemon shake ups and elephant ears. Burket Boy Scouts will sell Mouse Ears, Mentone EMS will sell Igloo ice cream and Wheels on Fire will grill hamburgers and hotdogs.
Mentone United Methodist Church will have a car wash starting at 9 a.m. by Lake City Bank by the big egg, Croy said. They will be accepting donations.
At 6 p.m., the band Side Effects will be playing until 9 p.m. in the parking lot next to Subway, Croy said. If it ends up raining Saturday, the band will perform in the fire station. People are asked to bring their own chairs if they attend the performance of Side Effects.
Starting Thursday and going through Saturday, the shops downtown will have sidewalk sales, Croy said.
During those three days, there will townwide garage sales in the parking lot next to Subway. Usually, people have to get a permit to sell at the garage sales, but the requirement is being dropped this time, Croy said.
Croy said Center for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines of social distancing will be followed. If people can’t social distance, they will need to wear masks.
