MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Kan, - Mentone native and Tippecanoe Valley High School graduate Dathan L. Reed recently received the Gold Medal of Valor from the state of Kansas and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

On June 15, 2006, Reed, a deputy with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department, was involved in a foot pursuit of a subject who was wanted for numerous shootings in Independence, Kan.
