MENTONE – Josh Shepherd officially was named utilities superintendent for the town of Mentone Monday night, and Mervin Jones was announced as a new utilities employee.
Shepherd takes over for Eric Carlin, who submitted a letter of resignation effective Feb. 15. Jones’s first day was Monday.
The town council approved the annual salary for Jones at $30,000.
Jones, 39, Mentone, is married to April and they have three children. A 1991 Tippecanoe Valley High School graduate, Jones had his own welding business prior to joining the town’s utility department.
In its approval to name Shepherd as utilities superintendent, the council also approved increasing his pay to $36,000 per year.
In other business, Shepherd said with spring about here, residents should bag or box their leaves to make it easier to pick them up, instead of putting them in the street.
He said the county has made contact with them with regard to working on the creek. Shepherd said he told them they would help in anyway they can with regard to picking up brush.
Council President Tim Croy reported the recycle bins were temporarily moved to the northwest corner of the Mentone Agri-Center parking lot. The lot the bins were on was sold.
