MENTONE – Mentone is moving forward in filling its deputy marshal position.
The position became vacant after Sam Bohnke’s resignation was approved in December so he could take a position at the Warsaw Police Department.
Town Marshal Jim Eads on Wednesday said he received seven applications for the position.
During the Mentone Town Council meeting, Eads said he’d like to set up a time for an executive session with the Council to review the applications, “thin it down and keep moving forward.” Eads said he’d like to do it before the Council’s March meeting.
An executive session was set for 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Town attorney Andrew Grossnickle said he’ll check the statute, but he thinks the Council can sit down and review potential candidates. Council President Jill Gross said the Council has done that before.
In other business:
• Utilities Superintendent Josh Shepherd thanked “all of my helpers” clearing snow during the snow storm last week.
• The Council learned the town received speed limit signs, but nothing will be done with them until spring.
• The Council heard Shepherd purchased a snow pusher from WA Jones, Columbia City, for $3,700.
