LEESBURG - A Mentone man was released from a Fort Wayne hospital today after being rescued Wednesday from a gravel bin at a Leesburg concrete company.
Ken T. Ganshorn, 43, complained of shoulder pain and trouble breathing after the 9:39 a.m. accident. He was trapped in the bin for about two hours before emergency crews could extricate him. Ganshorn then was airlifted from the scene to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department report, Ganshorn was walking on a catwalk above the gravel bin at Kuert Concrete, West CR 600N, Leesburg, when the catwalk apparently gave way. Ganshorn, who is an employee of Kuert Concrete, fell 12 to 15 feet into the bin and was trapped in the gravel.
The rescue was made possible with the help of a rescue basket borrowed from R.R. Donnelley & Sons, Warsaw.
Leesburg and Warsaw fire departments and Plain Township and Multi-Township emergency medical services responded to the scene after a 911 call was received by the Kosciusko County Central Dispatch Center.
