One man is dead and another man was arrested after an accident early Saturday morning.

Thomas A. Gibbs, 23, of Mentone, was pronounced dead after falling from the bed of a moving pickup truck driven by Jared A. Stephens, 20, also of Mentone. The accident occurred at the intersection of Ind. 25 and CR 150S in Kosciusko County.

Stephens was attempting to take Gibbs to Kosciusko Community Hospital after the incident when they came upon officers at the scene of another accident on Fox Farm Road near South Side Drive in Warsaw around 3 a.m. Saturday.

Gibbs, who was in the bed of the white Ford Ranger, was pronounced dead by the Kosciusko County Coroner at the Fox Farm Road accident scene.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident, and Stephens was arrested for driving while intoxicated, causing death. He was booked into Kosciusko County Jail at 6:45 a.m. Saturday and was held on $10,000 bond.

A second passenger in the truck, Rick Kensinger, 23, of Mentone, was uninjured in the incident and was not charged.

The accident remains under investigation by the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department.

The Warsaw Police Department and Multi-Township EMS assisted at the scene.
