Posted

MENTONE -ÊA Mentone man is in critical condition after a Tuesday afternoon accident.

Around 4:29 p.m. Tuesday, Dallas D. Richardson, 46, of Mentone, was driving a pickup eastbound on CR 200S when he was broadsided by a pickup driven by Tracy L. Lewis, 38, of Rochester, at CR 950W.

According to statements and evidence collected at the scene of the crash, Kosciusko County Sheriff's deputies determined that Lewis disregarded a stop sign while traveling southbound on CR 950W and then broadsided Richardson.

After the impact, Richardson's pickup hit a utility pole and rolled over several times before landing on its top.

Richardson suffered head injuries in the accident and was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital. He was then transferred to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, where he was listed in critical condition this morning.

Lewis refused medical treatment and was taken to KCH, where a standard drug and alcohol screen was performed, although alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department was assisted at the scene by the Mentone Fire Department, Mentone EMS and Multi-Township EMS.
