MENTONE – A Mentone man who just recently moved from Rochester was arrested Saturday morning by the Mentone Police Department for dealing and possession of methamphetamine.
Donald R. Lewis, 55, of 411 N. Broadway St., Mentone, was arrested and preliminarily charged with Class B felony dealing in methamphetamine more than 3 grams and Class D for possession of methamphetamine, according to a press release from the MPD. Lewis also had an outstanding civil warrant from Fulton County for $346.
Mentone Town Marshal James Eads and deputy Terry S. Engstrand were dispatched at approximately 7 a.m. to Lewis’ residence in reference to his dogs running at large and had killed the neighbor’s cat.  Upon arrival to Lewis’ residence, officers observed the two dogs running at large. Officers made contact with Lewis at the residence and informed him of the incident with the neighbor’s cat. Lewis was issued a ticket for the dogs running at large. Lewis will have to follow the Indiana state law with keeping the dogs quarantined for 10 days.
While officers were dealing with Lewis, they obtained information that Lewis had the active warrant through Fulton County Sheriff's Department. Officers placed Lewis in to handcuffs for the active warrant and while searching his person they located the methamphetamine in his pocket.
Lewis is currently being held at Kosciusko County Jail on a $20,000 bond.
The Mentone Police Department is continuing an investigation with the methamphetamine that may lead to more arrest. The Mentone Police Department is asking residents of Mentone or Kosciusko County to report any known methamphetamine activity to local police.
