MENTONE – Mentone Elementary will host kindergarten round-up March 4 at 6 p.m. Families will start the evening with a pizza meal served in the cafeteria. There also will be a drawing that evening for five backpacks filled with kindergarten supplies. After the dinner, a parent meeting will begin at 6:30 p.. about the requirements for children attending kindergarten during the 2013-14 school year. Children that are 5 years old on or before Aug. 1 are eligible to attend kindergarten. Parents will learn about kindergarten readiness and receive a kindergarten packet filled with information and paperwork that needs to be turned in before their student begins kindergarten. This early registration is critical in the planning for next year’s kindergarten program. Child care will be provided for this meeting. If you can not attend, contact Mentone Elementary School prior to registration in August. Bring the child’s birth certificate and immunization records with you. If you are unable to attend March 4, parents may still come in during the day March 5 to March 8 and sign up their child. The school also will give away another five backpacks to those parents who enroll their kindergarten student during the daytime, starting March 5. Office hours to sign up for kindergarten will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., March 5-8.
