MENTONE - Mentone Town Council hired a new town employee Monday night at their monthly meeting.
The board approved the hiring of Josh Shepherd as a full-time employee. Shepherd will begin Feb. 11, and his salary will be $26,000 a year.
The board also adopted an ordinance of intent to join the federal flood insurance program. The matter will go to the state for approval.
The board also voted to upgrade a water mane running along West Jackson Street to extend to North Oak Street from 2 inches to 6 inches.
Two new fire hydrants along the upgraded water man will be installed to support the Garden Courts Complex.
The monthly police report was presented to the town board.
In January, Mentone Police made 10 arrests, five of which were felonies, issued 48 traffic warnings and one ordinance violation.
Jack Simpson and Tim Croy, the only two current Mentone Town Council members, were both present at the meeting. Roger Long resigned from the board at the January meeting.
