Mentone Egg Festival Starts May 31

MENTONE - A parade, car show and egg-tossing contest all will be a part of this year's annual Mentone Egg Festival.

The three-day festival will kick off May 31 in Mentone with flea markets, crafts, food vendors and a children's area.

"The festival keeps Mentone on the map and lets people know we are alive and well," said Rita Simpson, Mentone Chamber of Commerce president.This year's festival will celebrate Mentone's 125 years of existence, Simpson said.

Fort Wayne band Spike & The Bulldogs will perform May 31 at 7:30 p.m. at the Mentone Fire Station.

Garage sales will be held in the town June 1. The 14th annual Egg Festival car, truck, tractor and motorcycle show will he held at 4 p.m.

The festival continues June 2 with a pancake and sausage breakfast at 7 a.m.

An Egg City 5K run and 1- mile walk will begin at 8 a.m. at the Mentone Fire Station.

A parade will begin at 11 a.m. at Mentzer Memorial Park and go throughout the town and return to the park.

Mentone residents Linda and Bill Cochran are the parade marshals for this year's parade.

"We feel it is an honor to serve as parade marshals, and the festival is a way to kick off the summer," Linda said.

A Miss Chick and Mr. Rooster contest will be held at 12:30 p.m.

An egg toss will be held at 2:30 p.m., and Warsaw square dancers will perform at 5 p.m.

Those interested in participating in a cake-decorating contest can bring their cakes to Boggs and Nelson Insurance Agency, Mentone, May 31 and the cakes will be judged. People can pay a penny to vote on the cakes.

A cake walk will be held June 2 at 6:30 p.m.

Proceeds from the cake walk and penny vote will benefit Helping Hands, a Mentone food bank.

Miss Mentone will be crowned June 2 at 7 p.m., and a variety show will be held at 7:30 p.m.
