Mentone Donates To Wounded Warrior Project

Posted

Each year Mentone Elementary School hosts a Veterans Day program to honor men and women of the community who have served in the armed forces. The annual Veterans Day program is planned and directed by Mentone Elementary School secretary Vicki Swihart. This year, Swihart decided to add to the observance of Veterans Day by asking students and staff to contribute change to the Wounded Warrior Project. The Wounded Warrrior Project's mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors. It accomplishes the mission by raising awareness and enlisting the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members, to help injured servicemen and women aid and assist each other, and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs. Mentone parent and Burket Educational Center Head Custodian Matt Cavender heard about the project at Mentone and encouraged each of the schools in the Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation to participate in a similar manner. Collection containers were then placed in each Tippecanoe Valley school where students and staff were given the opporunity to contribute to the Wounded Warrior Project. A total of $513.62 was raised for the Wounded Warrior Project.
