Mentone Council Member Resigns

Posted

Terry Reed resigned his position on the Mentone Town Council Monday night.

"It's been fun, but it's time for me to move on," he said as he closed the monthly meeting.

Mike Miner, the county chairman of the Republican Party, has 30 days to find a replacement for Reed. He will accept applications from Republicans, then turn it over to the caucus before he appoints a new member.

Problems with the town's water project were also discussed. Several citizens raised questions about the town warning residents before the water was turned off. A citizen also complained about the behavior of construction crews throughout the town, speeding and leaving trash in yards.

The project is going well and workers hope to be done with the school building before school begins Aug. 18.

In other business, the council approved an ordinance violation program that will have the power to fine residents for violating new ordinances. Garbage, weeds, abandoned vehicles, burning and animal problems are included in the new ordinances. The police, library and town clerk's office all have copies of the new ordinances available to the public.
