MENTONE – Town attorney Andrew Grossnickle updated the Mentone Town Council about issues regarding a local mobile park during its meeting Wednesday.
Grossnickle said he called environmental scientist Bill Baxter with the Kosciusko County Health Department about any updates, but hasn’t heard back yet.
The mobile home park, called Kline Trailer Court, is owned by Bob Kline of Fort Wayne.
During December’s town council meeting, the town council was made aware of electrical, trash, bug and leak issues, among other things at the mobile park. Jeff McCoy, of Rochester, spoke to the town council about his experiences of living in the mobile park for a month. The town council also received a letter in regards to experiences another resident experienced.
McCoy claimed the tile near his bath tub was caved in during his residency at the mobile home park.
During April’s town council meeting Grossnickle said Baxter went to the mobile park and tried to see two trailers and wasn’t able to see either of them for varying reasons. He then saw the home of what seemed to be the property manager and saw some concerns there.
Councilman Tim Croy asked about the house that was tagged when Baxter went out. He said he believes someone new has moved in and the tag has been removed. He doesn’t know if the old people took off and moved new people in.
Grossnickle said he’ll check with Baxter about it. If that’s true and the health department weren’t the ones who removed the tag, he doesn’t believe the county will be very happy.
“It looks like somebody tried to take things into their own hands,” Grossnickle told the council.
Town Utilities Supervisor Josh Shepherd updated the town council on some improvements at the park.
There were two concrete slabs with grills on them at the park and one of them got rusted out, so a new bottom is being put in.
Croy asked Shepherd if there would still be two grills at the park, and Shepherd said there would be.
Three new picnic tables have been ordered from Barnwood Masters LLC to put in the park as well. There will be three concrete slabs at the park with picnic tables on them, Shepherd said.
Council members are Croy, Shelly Krueger and President Jill Gross. The council meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of every month.
A public budget hearing is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. Sept. 2 at the town hall. In October, the council is expected to adopt the budget, barring any unforeseen circumstances. The state must still review and approve the budget or suggest any changes to the council. The council did not discuss the budget at Wednesday’s meeting, but previously discussed it at their June 3 meeting, but budget figures were not provided then.
