MENTONE - Contrary to remarks made at Monday's Mentone Town Council meeting, there will be a beer tent at this weekend's Egg Festival.
Bulldog Saloon owner Tim Carter applied for a temporary beer/wine license, which was granted by the Indiana Alcohol and Tobacco Commission.
The beer tent will be on a private lot at 104 S. Broadway St.
Mentone town attorney Larry Beeson told the town council Monday night that Carter needed approval from the town, which had to be sent to the state 15 days in advance of the event. Carter didn't have the approval. But because the beer tent is on private property, Carter does not need the approval of the town council.
Beeson said this morning he misread the statute.
Carter said the beer tent will be open Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m.
An advertisement for the beer tent appears on page 5B of today's edition.
