Memorial Day Events Planned In Kosciusko County

Several Memorial Day services have been planned in Kosciusko County.
The annual John C. Peterson Warsaw American Legion Post 49 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126 Memorial Day services will be May 27 in Warsaw.
The ceremony will begin at 10:55 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery.
The color guard, firing squad, and other organizational units will form in front of the cemetery sexton’s office and begin marching to the amphitheater at 10:55 a.m.
A program will follow at Oakwood Cemetery band stand.
Special music will be provided by the Kosciusko County Extension Choir, and Post 49 and Post 1126 members will post the colors.
Roy Bradbury, Post 49 commander, will provide opening remarks, and Tom Everett, Chaplain for Post 49 and Post 1126, will provide the invocation.
Ken Locke, Salvation Army director, will provide the Memorial Day address.
Mike Davis, Post 49 adjutant, and Larry Criswell, Post 1126 quartermaster, will provide a roll call of deceased veterans.
Dick Dobbins and Tom Everett will retire the flag.
Everett will provide the benediction and combined color guards will retire the colors.
After the colors have been retired, the program will proceed to the Gar Circle and Legion Circle 2 where a wreath will be placed by Commander Roy Bradbury and Auxiliary President Cindy Peters.
Taps will follow the presentation. The program will be concluded at Legion Circles 1 and 3. A carry-in dinner at Post 49 will follow the program.
North Webster Memorial Day ceremonies are as follows on May 27: 9 a.m. - Thorn Cemetery.; 9:30 a.m. - Salem Cemetery; 10 a.m. - Mock Cemetery; 10:30 a.m. - Post 253 - A salute to honor those who died at sea; 10:45 a.m. - Parade - beginning at the downtown stoplight and moving north to the North Webster Cemetery; 11 a.m. - North Webster Cemetery Service - Pastor Gary Colby, guest speaker; noon - flag raising at Post 253 in North Webster.
A Veteran’s Ceremony is Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.
Pierceton American Legion Post 258 will have a Memorial Day Parade May 27 at 10:45 a.m. The route is on Main Street to Brower’s Park. A ceremony will be at Brower’s Park following the parade with a carry-in dinner at the legion following the ceremony.
Syracuse American Legion Post 223 will have a parade at noon May 27 beginning at Medusa Street and ending on Main Street.
A Memorial Day service organized by Syracuse VFW and American Legion will follow the parade at the Syracuse Cemetery. Sign up for the parade is available from 10 a.m. to noon May 27 at Syracuse Elementary School on Brooklyn Street the day of the parade.
Leesburg will have a Memorial Day parade and service May 27 at 10:30 a.m.
The parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. and all participants are asked to be in place by 10:15 a.m. The parade will proceed from downtown and go to the Leesburg Cemetery where the service will be held to honor those who have served.
The Sons of the American Legion will host breakfast at North Manchester Legion Post 286 on Saturday from 7 to 10 a.m. The menu is eggs to order, sausage, hash browns, toast and coffee for $6. This is open to the public. A Memorial Day service will at the Memorial Day Park at 9 a.m.
