Editor, Times-Union:

The Leesburg community honored those who have served their country with a Memorial Day parade and service.

The committee was very proud of the community for their participation in the parade and for the great number of spectators that gathered along the route to the cemetery.

The parade started with a flag raising by the Boy Scouts. Martin Becker played "To The Colors" during the ceremony. The parade lineup was directed by Craig Charlton, Jim Loser provided golf carts for the veterans to ride. Farmers State Bank provided the funds for the token of appreciation given to those that participated.

The ceremony at Leesburg Cemetery was directed by Sue Richey. The music was provided by Rick Whitaker. The pastors from the Leesburg United Methodist Church, Clunette United Methodist Church and Leesburg Grace Brethren Church each spoke briefly. Richard Klopenstein read the memorial roster for the Leesburg, Oswego and Clunette cemeteries. After the deceased were saluted, Martin Becker played "Taps."

Popcorn was served by the Allen family and friends. Hot dogs and cold drinks were served by Leesburg Grace Brethren Church at the Robert Allen residence.

The parade, service at the cemetery and refreshments were enjoyed and greatly appreciated by those in attendance.

The community wishes to thank everyone that helped and/or participated in this annual community event.
