SYRACUSE — Melvin L. “Mel” Weaver, 91, Syracuse, passed away at 4:50 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at his home.
He was born Jan. 22, 1927, in Warsaw, to Russell and Mary Jane Polk Weaver.
He lived most of his life in the Syracuse area, attended Syracuse Public Schools and took welding classes in Columbia City.
He was married on April 18, 1954, in Syracuse, to Ethel M. Denton, who survives.
He was a bus driver for Wawasee Community School Corp. for 31 years and worked for Indiana Restaurant, Warsaw, for 20 years. He was the former owner/operator of Weavers Duck Farms for 27 years and Weavers Welding, Syracuse, for many years.
He was a member of the Church of God, Syracuse, and former member of the Good Sam Camping Club.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel Weaver, Syracuse; a daughter, Janet (Ken) Davies, Fort Wayne; two sons, Gary (Marsha) Weaver, North Webster, and Kenneth (Carol) Weaver, Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Walter Weaver.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, in the funeral home, with Pastors Stan Owen and Brad Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Syracuse Cemetery.
