SYRACUSE - Melvin D. "Melvie and Nice Day" Williams, 78, of Kendallville, and formerly of Syracuse, died at 7:50 a.m. Jan. 5, 2011, in his residence.

He was born Feb. 29, 1932, in Auburn, to Walter P. and Gwendolyn M. Rogers Williams.

He lived most of his life in the Syracuse area until moving to the Ligonier/Kendallville area in 1995. He worked at Foundations, Albion, and formerly worked at Sellers Manufacturing, Smith Walbridge Camp and Syracuse Rubber Co., all in Syracuse. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Kendallville, and formerly attended Syracuse Church of God.

Surviving are three sisters, Julia Harmon, Austin, Texas; Artista (and spouse Anarbul) Anaya, Corona, Calif.; and Elma (and spouse James) Foust, Ligonier; and three brothers: Roger (and spouse Betty) Williams, Camarillo, Calif.; David (and spouse Kathleen) Williams, Houston, Texas; and Lawrence Williams, Novato, Calif. He was preceded in death by two sisters and a brother.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse, with Pastor Brad Cox officiating. Burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery.

Calling is from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
