Melissa Sue Prater Cupp, 44, Pierceton, passed away at 7:33 p.m. April 25, 2014, at her residence of natural causes. She was born Nov. 16, 1969, in Warsaw, to John and Bonnie Hamilton Prater. She was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County. She was a 1988 graduate of Whitko High School where she held numerous track and field records. She continued her education in nursing school to become a registered nurse working in hospitals and nursing homes. She loved to be around friends and family, and she was always giving and doing anything she could for anyone. Surviving are her parents, Warsaw; a son, Brandon Hurley, Pierceton; three stepsons: Jeremy Hurley, Tuscola, Ill.; Joseph and Alexander Hurley, both of Warsaw; four brothers: Eric Prater, Centerville, Mo.; Peter Peconga, Warsaw; Adam Prater, Burket; Jonathan Prater, Philippines; her best friend and caretaker, Sharon McCarty, Pierceton; and her life partner and best friend, Larry Yates, Pierceton. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joe Prater. No services are planned at this time.
