Manchester, whose father was a bassoonist for the New York Metropolitan Orchestra, has followed a career in music nearly all of her life. While still in high school, she recorded commercial jingles for radio and was a staff writer for Chapel Music.

She soon began singing in Manhattan night clubs and attracted the attention of Barry Manilow and Bette Midler - both of whom hired her as a backup singer. Later, her own recording career led to such hits as "Midnight Blue," "Whenever I Call You Friend," "Through the Eyes of Love" and "You Should Hear How She Talks about You."

Manchester combined her acting and singing talents in leading roles such as Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Music of the Night" and "Song and Dance." She also composed and recorded the score of "Lady and the Tramp II" for Disney.
