Melba Kussmaul, 76, of Warsaw, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 9, 2011, in Grace Village Health Care, Winona Lake.
She was born Feb. 10, 1935, in Whitley County, to Andrew and Mary Bryant Brookover. On July 3, 1954, in Huntington, she married John Kussmaul, who preceded her in death.
Living in Kosciusko County since 1971, she and John were past owners of Jot-Em-Down Store (Barbee Lake) from 1971-2003. She was a member of Salem Community Missionary Church and was president of the Women’s Circle at the church. She enjoyed gardening and her flowers.
Surviving are two sons, John J. Jr. (and spouse Margaret) Kussmaul, Valparaiso, and James J. Kussmaul, Warsaw; three daughters: Mary (and spouse Roger) Kuhn, North Webster; Joan (and spouse Bruce) Schumacher, Indianapolis, and Jennifer Kussmaul, Warsaw; a sister, Ola Mae Bergdall, Monticello; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a niece. She also was preceded in death by her parents. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, officiated by Pastor Robert Wyman of North Webster Church of the Brethren. Burial will be in Huntington Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Huntington.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
