ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill. – The Association for Manufacturing Excellence is pleased to announce Medtronic Spinal Warsaw Operations as a 2011 recipient of its Manufacturing Excellence Award.

Medtronic Spinal is a global leader in developing new standards of care in spinal and musculoskeletal therapies. The company’s Warsaw plant is one of seven facilities to receive the award, which signifies high levels of excellence achieved and sustained throughout the past year. All award recipients recognized by AME maintain global competitiveness and continually position their organizations as leaders.

Medtronic Spinal’s Warsaw plant primarily manufactures spinal implant products used to stabilize abnormal spine curves, as well as treat degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, fracture, dislocation, and spine injuries from tumor or trauma. The Warsaw manufacturing facility employs more than 650 people. Medtronic Spinal posted revenues of $3.5 billion in fiscal year 2011.

“AME is pleased to recognize Medtronic Spinal’s plant in Warsaw, Indiana as one of this year’s Manufacturing Excellence Award recipients,” says Paul Kuchuris, AME President. “The Warsaw plant manages over 30,000 SKUs and 10,000 end items, ships approximately 11,000 pieces per day, and has yielded up to 90 percent reduction in set-up time by implementing set-up reduction events.”

“We are honored and proud to receive this award as it recognizes the hard work and dedication our entire work force provides in pursuing manufacturing excellence,” says Roy Wiley, site lead. “Over the past few years the Warsaw team has focused on predictable delivery of new product launches, developing capable processes under SPC and improving employee collaboration. Development and implementation of a facility wide Policy Deployment system managed through Standard Work has been a key driver in the facilities success.”
