The early-morning crash that shut down Center Street between Buffalo and Indiana streets for two hours Tuesday appears to have been the result of the driver having a medical emergency.
At 7:26 a.m. Tuesday, Warsaw police were called to the 100 block of East Center Street to a report of a car that had gone up over the curb and crashed into two other parked vehicles.
Upon arrival, police spoke to a woman who said she was traveling south on North Lake Street a behind maroon 2014 Chevrolet Cruz, when the Cruz went off the roadway at Hayden’s laundromat and onto the curb.
The witness told police the car then turned left onto West Center Street and as he was completing the turn, struck a parked vehicle, then continued east on East Center Street and struck another parked vehicle.
When first responders approached the disabled car, they found an unresponsive Byron L. McNees, 68, of North Zimmer Road, Warsaw. Police performed CPR on McNees before McNees was taken by ambulance to Kosciusko Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office.
According to the crash report, no one was injured in the incident, and that portion of the street was closed for two hours.
Police estimate damage between $10,000 and $25,000, and the crash remains under investigation.
