In response to the letter from Jim Newcombe about word usage:
Mr. Newcombe, not to defend Gary Gerard or the Associated Press, I think you should be made aware of the fact that copper and iron are both minerals, not chemicals. So before you "meddle" in the editor's job, you should show your "mettle" and do some study on "metal." Then we will all be more literate.
