MDA Lock-Up Raises $56,000

Posted
There were 61 of Kosciusko County’s most wanted who raised bail and awareness for the Muscular Dystrophy Association Feb. 26.
Each jailbird received a biography of a MDA child to assist with their bail raising efforts. The suspects then turned themselves in or were arrested at their places of business and escorted to Noa Noa, the official jail site of the event.
The jailbirds were sentenced to raise bail money before the event and during their one hour stay in jail.
All suspects were released at the end of the day for good behavior, and were able to raise more than $56,000 in donations and pledges to fight muscle disease.
This lock up will help families in Northern Indiana receive the best available medical care at the MDA clinic at Lutheran Hospital.
Additionally 50 children from Northern Indiana will enjoy a week of MDA summer camp at Camp Potawotami.
MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, Lou Gehrig’s Disease and related diseases by funding worldwide research.
The association also provides health care services, advocates for the families it serves and invests resources in educating the medical and scientific communities, as well as the general public, about neuromuscular diseases affecting more than 1 million Americans.
MDA maintains a nationwide network of some 200 hospital-affiliated clinics — 38 of which are designed as MDA/ALS centers.
They provide medical and health care services to adults and children with neuromuscular diseases.
Families in Kosciusko County are encouraged to visit the MDA Clinic at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne or the Elkhart Clinic in Elkhart.
